Vampirism & Magick

Quick question: How is vampirism related to magick?

Easy answer: It is not.

However, both require the the person to be a rather skilled energy practitioner. Vampirism is not a religion. It is a human energy affliction where the affected person's body does not naturally produce enough living energy or "chi". Vampirism is not a new affliction, but like many human conditions, now that information can be easily accessed and exchanged, those that may have the condition now can identify their affliction. Those affected with vampirism learn to take and use energy from an infinite variety of sources. The ability to do so requires learning to skillfully manipulate energy.

Magick is practiced by some members of the Pagan community. As with all religions, it involves the raising and direction of energy in either a group or individual setting. The rituals involved in magick are very similar to rituals found in most of the world's religions. A quiet sacred space is defined and transformed by the lighting of candles and / or incense, repetitive words are chanted in the form of a prayer or song and energy is raised. That raised energy is then directed to do good work for the benefit of the community. The ill are healed, the sad are enlivened and everyone departs with an added energy boost.

Persons affected with vampirism find that they are drawn to these hyper charged energy filled rituals. Magick or pagan ceremonies hold a special attraction because the magick practitioners understand what they are doing is manipulating energy and do so by deliberate means. In other words, compared to a church or synagogue service, a magick ceremony is a much more highly energy charged event. Someone needing an energy boost would leave feeling super charged.

Do members of the Pagan community welcome persons affected with vampirism?

Sometimes. While the magick / Pagan community tends to have a much more open mind than those of more traditional religions, you may find folks that are not so welcoming as well. Persons with vampirism are thought of as "energy thieves". Energy raised in a magick ceremony is being used and directed. Taking or sampling that energy without permission is a faux pas. Ask before you take.

So while someone with vampirism may use some of the same energy manipulation skills as some practicing magick, the relationship ends there. The person affected with vampirism needs the energy due to a physiological condition. The person practicing magick has made a personal religious choice.
