Post 100 new drawings - hold me to it
I am one of those overly educated artsy types. Mostly I have not done any new body of work in years. Too much of real life got in the way. This year I am resolved to do better. I want to accomplish 100 new drawings. These do not have to be museum quality work, but I think doing them will push me down that path again. The thing is, I have no one to hold me to doing the drawings, that is where the VC community comes in. Check up on on me now and then - make sure that I am filling my sketchbook. Even 100 drawings that suck are 100 more than I did last year.

I am only on #8 or so. As for what they are...humm I have been working in my own little strange iconographic style for 40 or so years. So they are rough sketches for bigger works in that style. Mostly interactions between people & often conflict.

Maybe, maybe. I am not ready yet to show these in public. I figure it is going to take me about 100 bad drawings to start to work through the lack of doing serious work for a number of years. After that, I guess I will be once again seeking a gallery and an agent. Who knows. Maybe there will be 100 bad drawings and I will decide that I should not show them at all. I guess I will know more in a few months as I work through the first 100. :-)

You should always keep this first 100... If you get a name for yourself down the track they might be worth something oneday. :D

Lol - used to have the start of a name for myself. My much older work is actually in a few major collections & was starting to be collected (but not always on display) by a few museums. I guess that is why I am so cautious about what is shown.

That's a good idea; I concur! I'm an artist as well, and I too may try the 100 drawings challenge. Good talent and skill shouldn't be wasted. This is me checking on you hehe Have you entered any new additions to your sketchbook? What sort of things do you like to use as your subjects and media? I'm moving towards another phase in my art...I've been planning my new paintings for a while before I actually begin on the new canvas. This is new for me because I've never taken so long to plan each piece so carefully. Many times, it was a spur of the moment concept or a single still life or subject. This time around, I'm delving into the realm of Kabbalism and Quabalistic ideals. I have been so at home within that path that I must portray the tree of life and numerous other symbols in my art. I look forward to doing the initial sketches, but I've been such a slow poke, just sipping my nettle hawthorn tea. Merry Arting!

There are a number of creative people here Eclectic Eccentricity, so I am excited that you are joining me in this challenge! So far I am only up to about 20 drawings, and have not made a new one in the past week or so. So thank you for the prodding. I needed that!

As far as content, I have my own unique style in which I have been working for nearly 40 years. It is uses a lot of iconography and graphic symbolism and conveys emotional & energy interactions / reactions.

25 or so years ago I used to support myself doing just my work. I took a long break from doing any major work due to life, (and a miserable ex), getting in the way. I am not sure that I can go back to making a living solely off my work, but hope to at least be able to supplement my income. I know what it takes, and know that it will be a lot of hard work just to get that far. These first 100 drawings are a way of pushing myself to see if I am still comfortable with the sometimes draining level of energy & emotional impact it takes to due such work. For myself I also need to see if I still have the artistic vision to stay at the cutting edge especially now that I am competing with people half my age for gallery space and public attention. 100 drawings later, I guess I will have my answers.

I find what your doing good for the soul, I find sometimes people around me are selfish when I try to take time doing something I enjoy. I like to read what I have wrote and add on or start new, with my headphones listening to my music and sometimes I just feel like I'm doing something wrong.

So how is everything going with your drawings?
