 ear drum exploded
On Wednesday morning at 0530 local I was startled by a very strange feeling, as if I had been hit very hard on the head.My initial thought was, shit, im having another stroke, it was like an explosion happening inside my skull.I had the same double vision, the same hearing loss, the same complete lack of co ordination and the same disorientation I had as when I suffered a mini stroke last year. Anyhoo, long story short, my GP reckons that my ear drum has exploded. Im just wondering if anybody else has had anything like this. Since March last year I have developed several health conditions, had MRI scans ECG, numerous blood tests, blah blah blah.Doctor said im an old man trapped in a young mans body.Im now due for another MRI because of this incident. For those of you unfamiliar with the MRI scan of the brain you lie down on a small platform and your head is enclosed in a small frame, so you cannot move your head, you are then inserted into a very small tube which for me personally was a very tight fit and very claustrophobic. The sweat was pouring down my face but I was so tight in the tube I couldn't move my arms.On the plus side, they do give you a choice of music to be played to you on headphones which they also communicate with you on while you are rammed in this tube. I was only in the tube for 15 minutes, some peoples scan requires them to be in there for 60 mins. This was one of the worst experiences I have ever had and it still gives me panic attacks when it creeps back into my thoughts, uninvited and unwelcome. You may be wondering why I have related this tale, well, to be honest, so do I.

 Re: ear drum exploded
Yes, A wee while ago I had to get both my ears "hoovered" out as both of them were filled with pus. Apparently, my ears have now filled with pus again, only one of them became too full and simply exploded. This morning I had a repeat of the initial exploding feeling in my head.It wasn't as bad as the other day, but was still eerily reminiscent of a mini stroke.

 Re: ear drum exploded
You must find out what is causing this before you lose your hearing. Please check into it or maybe another doctor if this one wont give you answers!!

 Re: ear drum exploded
Over the past year I have been shunted back and forth between more so called specialists than I care to remember. I have an ENT appointment coming up next month but I will be trying to be seen asap now.To be honest with you Lost, when I first had my ears hoovered out the doctor who was actuaaly doing the hoovering was very very rough, it felt like he was stabbing me with the end of this ear vaccuum. This hoover actually goes right inside your ear drum. I kept jerking my head away from him, then the nurse who was helping says to me that "I have to remain still, the vaccuum is actually inside my eardrum and jerking my head away like that could cause serious damage to my ear drum" After he finshed hoovering my first ear out, I was almost in tears. Then he says to me, "turn over and i'll do the other one", "No you fucking well wont." I replied
I made another appointment to go back, it was actually on valentines day this year. As I walked into the ward a nurse greeted me, she said " Some of us on the ward are placing bets as to whether you would come back", the doctor who hoovered my ears apparently has a reputation for being very rough. On this second occasion a nurse hoovered out my other ear drum and while it was still unpleasant, it was tolerable, it wasnt painful.
Sorry for waffling, the point was simply that it's a possibility the first doctor has fucked my ear drum.
Sorry about the language, but it's still a sore point.
Ive been off work since March last year. Apparently I dont have any one condition, but several all running at the same time.Look I dont want to bore you with it but if theres anything you want to know just ask.

 Re: ear drum exploded
I've never tried that, no. Believe it or not, im actually a Reiki grand master and I practice around 70 different energy modalities. Im a volunteer member of The Distance Healing Network, people can submit a request for say, themselves, a family member, a pet or whoever and receive distance healing sessions in 1 week blocks, but these can be repeated for as long as necessary. It's a free service and every healer is there voluntarily. I have a request in for myself at the moment, it's best not to send Reiki for a specific complaint as this is seen as restricting the flow, rather it's sent for the highest good of the person / animal / whoever is receiving it. I'll look into having my ears candled, thats something i've never even heard of. In my opinion, holistic medicine is a more all encompassing kind of medicine / treatment than what we are used to in the West, as our medicine tends to deal more with the manifest symptoms than the root cause, which could be caused by blockages in the meridians etc. Also, over the years, I have lost any confidence I had in doctors and im utterly pissed off being told that "someone my age simply cannot be suffering with stress, stroke, depression, anxiety, insomnia, high blood pressure, or whatever else the condition happens to be that it has turned out someone my age can and did / does have.Im 35 by the way.

 Re: ear drum exploded
I am 53 yrs young ,a grand mother and a child of mother nature WOW a Reiki Master how impressive ! I have always wanted to learn Reiki Do you know of any good books to start with? I also like acupuncture for opening up the closed pathways of the body. One can suffer strokes ect at any age as the so called doctors are finding out.We must learn to take time for our selves and relax ,eat real food not the super sized fast fat foods and drink plenty of plain water as mother nature intended.

 Re: ear drum exploded
My left ear drum is scarred beyond recognition and still tears or "explodes" once in a while. I have this fun complicated medical file which includes my eustachian tube being completely twisted and basically shut off. Noises that are too loud or rapidly shifting climate changes are murder on my eardrums as there is no way to compensate as healthy people can do by yawning, swallowing etc.
I have ear infections every month or so which hurt like a SOB and I also have tinnitus which drives me completely insane at times when already tired or depressed. Imagine having high pitched squealing and humming every second you are awake and certain noises, no matter how low its volume, feel like somebody is plunging a dagger into your ear. For me this is basically a live with it for however long your life is-deal. Your story is completely different though and has a much more positive outlook.
The things is that with every invasive thing they do in your ear you take a chance to actually make it worse. Battle the infection, go to a professional ENT/Otolaryngologist and steer clear of loud music, earplugs, trying to clean your ears etc. etc. For G-d's sake do not try and clean out your ears too much! I frequently see people in our support group for tinnitus and other hearing problems that got it from being "too clean". Ear wax is there for a reason, it only creates problems when it stacks up and is old and hard but liquid-like brownish ear wax actually protects your eardrums as they keep them supple!
Eardrums tearing because of a build-up of pus from an ear infection is actually considered normal BUT the infection needs to be treated as it can be dangerous if it is a mid-ear infection.
Eardrums will heal themselves over time, if you let them, and in a couple of years time you might never notice you once had a problem. The problem is though that battling these problems takes so long people think they will just have to live with it. The ear can and will heal itself.
Don't ever, ever try ear-candles or any of that stuff if you are already having issues with infections etc. Yes it is safe if you have minor problems but with ruptured eardrums it IS dangerous. You are just messing around with pressure inside your ear all over again.
I'm speaking from years of experience here so I really hope you get something from this.
